A man was arrested on a charge of dangerous driving after being caught traveling 130 miles per hour because he wanted to get home before his dinner turned cold, according to police in the United Kingdom.
Now, 32-year-old Lee Rutherford of Northumberland, has been sentenced to serve 20 weeks in prison, which was suspended for a year, after being found guilty of making a false statement to obtain insurance and dangerous driving.
Rutherford was also ordered to take an extended driving test before being able to drive again. He received a fine of 1,120 pounds ($1,367).
According to the criminal complaint, Rutherford purchased food at McDonald’s, including French fries. He then got into his car and traveled at speeds of 130 miles per hour.
He was pulled over by police and questioned. Rutherford told police that he was rushing home because he wanted to eat his French fries before they turned cold.
