Johnny Depp is lost at sea in the new “Pirates of the Caribbean” trailer.
The star of the Disney franchise is missing in the dark new preview for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” Instead, it features Javier Bardem as the creepy Captain Salazar in search of Depp’s signature character, Captain Jack Sparrow.
“Find Sparrow for me and relay him a message from Captain Salazar,” Bardem says in the clip. “Tell him, ‘Death comes straight for him.'”
The film will be Depp’s first return to the big screen since his bombshell divorce with Amber Heard was finalized in August.
The pair’s split was highly publicized after Heard accused him of physical and emotional abuse. The terms of the agreement took months to sort out. Heard was eventually awarded $7 million, which she will donate entirely to charities.
It’s unclear if the divorce drama and abuse accusations are the reasons why Depp is left out of the trailer but it mostly could be chalked up to the movie’s plot, which centers around Salazar’s search for revenge against Sparrow.
“Dead Men Tell No Tales” also referred to as “Salazar’s Revenge” is due out in May 2017. Orlando Bloom will also return for the fifth installment of the franchise.
