A little girl lost her life while trying to feed the new dog that her mother adopted just minutes earlier, according to police in Michigan.
The St. Joseph County sheriff’s department said that the incident unfolded on Sunday around 4:00 p.m.
Jacey McNeal Wolkins, who lives with her daughter in a home on the 63000 block of W. Fish Lake Road, adopted the dog from a man.
The man and Wolkins spent a few minutes together to get the dog used to its new family. Minutes after the man left, 4-year-old Kiyana McNeal tried to give the 3-year-old dog a biscuit.
The dog attacked McNeal, and when Wolkins tried to pull the animal away, it attacked her as well. McNeal died at the scene.
Wolkins was taken to a hospital with injuries to her head and arms.
