Two university students were arrested after a turkey was found injured and smelling of beer.
Tim the turkey went missing from the Orange High School’s Agriculture Department in California, after 5:00 p.m. It was later found to have been tortured at the hands of its kidnappers.
Now, Steven Koressel, 23, and Richard Melbye, 21, have been convicted of kidnapping the turkey, which ultimately had to be euthanized.
The turkey suffered for five months after being found with a broken toe, missing feathers, bleeding from the head and reeking of beer.
Koressel and Melbye pleaded guilty to entering the animal enclosure without consent. They were sentenced to one day in jail, one year of probation and 100 hours of community service.
They were also ordered to pay a total of $447 to the Saddleback Animal Hospital for the turkey’s care, and were ordered to stay 100 yards away from the Orange High School, where they were students.
