A man was arrested on a charge of arson after allegedly setting fire to his mother’s house because God told him to do it, according to police in Alaska.
Gassville police said that they have arrested 25-year-old Scott G. Willett, after he was seen leaving his mother’s house as it went up in flames.
In court, Willett pleaded not guilty to one count of arson. He was booked into the Baxter County jail, and his bail was set at $75,000.
According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Monday around 11:30 a.m., at the home located at 249 Wildcat Shoals Road.
A neighbor told police that Willett could be seen on the surveillance camera footage on the property as the fire started consuming the house.
The video showed smoke coming from the rear of the house, near the master bedroom about 30 seconds after Willett left the house.
When shown the video, Willett confessed to starting the fire, saying that God told me to do it.
