Soldier stabs transgender woman 119 times during meeting in hotel room

A soldier was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly stabbing a transgender woman more than 100 times during a meeting at a hotel, according to police in Mississippi.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said that they have arrested 20-year-old Dwanya Hickerson, who is a soldier at the Keesler Air Force Base, in connection with the stabbing death of 25-year-old Dee Whigham.

In court, Hickerson pleaded not guilty to one count of murder.

According to the police investigation, Whigham worked as a nurse at the Forrest General Hospital. Surveillance video from the Best Western Hotel, shows Hickerson and Whigham entering a room around 8:30 p.m.

Around 9:00 p.m., Hickerson left the room alone. Whigham’s friends called police around 9:45 p.m., after finding her stabbed body in the room.

Investigators said that Whigham was stabbed 119 times.
