Serena Williams breaks Martina Navratilova’s career Grand Slam wins record with easy romp at U.S. Open

Feeling like her favorite female super heroes, Serena Williams breezed to a record-breaking victory and declared that she’s still not in top form.

“I don’t feel like Serena yet,” she said. “Hopefully she’ll come around the second week.”

That’s a scary thought to the first three opponents she pummeled at the Open without dropping a set, none finished faster than the 60 minutes it took Saturday to beat Johanna Larsson, 6-2, 6-1.

It represented Williams’ 307th victory in a Grand Slam match, eclipsing Martina Navratilova for the all-time female record. She is also now tied with Roger Federer.

After U.S. Open win, Serena Williams calls out gender pay gap
“That was pretty cool for me,” Williams, 34, said. “Obviously I want to get that number higher and see what can happen.”

Williams hit the milestone while wearing a turtleneck skirt with pink arm sleeves, with Carmelo Anthony and his family cheering from a luxury suite. While Williams couldn’t recall the inspiration of her outfit, she said it might’ve had something to do with her enthusiasm for comic books.
