Police officer commits suicide after boyfriend broke up with her days after booking a trip together

A police officer committed suicide after learning the shocking news that her boyfriend dumped her.

Dr. Sara Gilks, 32, of Huddersfield, England, became very depressed when her boyfriend broke up with her, an inquest at the Bradford Coroner’s Court heard.

Her best friend, Diane Hirst, told the court that she received a text message from Gilks, after her boyfriend broke up with her, saying: “he has absolutely destroyed me.”

The police officer also told her friend that she did not see this coming as her boyfriend had booked a skiing trip for the two of them shortly before the breakup.

Gilks, who had a distinguished academic career, seemed to have everything going for her. She graduated from the University of Huddersfield with first class honors in forensic and analytic chemistry before gaining a PhD from the University of Manchester.

She then worked as a researcher at the University of Manchester, before becoming a special constable for the West Yorkshire Police.

However, she was left devastated over the break up and she overdosed on pills.

Detective Con Simon Thomas said a review of her cellphone history showed that Gilks had been researching on the Internet for ways of taking her own life.

Toxicology tests revealed that she took a fatal dose of a prescribed medicine. She also left a suicide note.
