A museum in New York, announced that an artist has placed a solid gold toilet in its facility in order to celebrate the American dream.
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of New York City, is hoping to attract visitors to its exhibits by offering them to use the 18-karat gold toilet for free.
The museum, which is located at 1071 5th Avenue, revealed that the functional toilet was created by Maurizio Cattelan of Italy.
The toilet was installed in the bathroom located on the fourth floor of the museum. Visitors can use the toilet as they would any normal functioning toilet.
The toilet is part of an exhibit to celebrate the American dream of opportunity for all.
“Viewers are invited to make use of the fixture individually and privately. Cattelan’s toilet offers a wink to the excesses of the art market, but also evokes the American dream of opportunity for all. Its utility ultimately reminds us of the inescapable physical realities of our shared humanity,” the museum wrote on its website.
“We are making available to the public an extravagant luxury product seemingly intended for the 1 percent,” they also wrote.
Visitors will have to pay the entrance fee to be able to use the toilet at no extra charge.
