A mother and her daughter were arrested on a charge of incest after getting married, according to police in Oklahoma.
Stephens County police said that they have arrested 25-year-old Misty Velvet Dawn Spann and 43-year-old Patricia Ann Clayton, after the two recently reunited and got married.
In court, Spann and Clayton pleaded not guilty to one count of incest. They were booked into the Stephens County Jail, and bail was set at $10,000 each.
According to the police investigation, Spann lost custody of her daughter and two sons, and they went to live with their grandparents.
Several years ago, Spann and Clayton reunited. The two then decided to get married.
Spann and Clayton told police that they did not know they were committing a crime because their last names are different and Spann is not listed as the mother on Clayton’s birth certificate.
Eight years ago, Spann married her son Jody Spann Jr. The marriage was annulled two years later, on grounds of incest.
