Fight over woman leads to gunshots with boyfriend injured by jealous rival

A gunman shot at a romantic rival in Washington Square Park after his 27-year-old victim dared him to pull the trigger, officials said Thursday.

“Go ahead … just tell my mother I love her,” the victim said moments before Wednesday’s 11:15 p.m. shooting at the Greenwich Village landmark.

The victim told police that he was hanging out inside the park when the suspect stormed over.

The two men had been arguing for the last few days ever since the suspect had made a pass at the victim’s girlfriend, police were told.

But this time, the suspect had a gun, cops said.

The gunman struck his victim twice in the head with the pistol, then pressed the muzzle against the man’s chest, threatening to shoot.

After the victim stared him down and told him to pull the trigger, the gunman pulled back and aimed the weapon at the man’s legs, officials said.

He fired one round, which hit the sidewalk. The victim was hit with a concrete shard when the bullet impacted with the ground, cops said.

No other injuries were reported.

Cops were still looking for the gunman Friday.
