A teacher in California, was arrested after she was seen passionately kissing a high school student.
40-year-old Heather Amanda Butts was charged with contacting a minor to commit a felony.
Police were called after Butts was seen sitting in a van and kissing the 15-year-old student.
Police found the pair in the van. The girl told police that she is in love with the woman who used to be her teacher. The girl admitted to police that the two had an ongoing relationship.
The girl had text messages to prove that she was in a romantic relationship with the teacher, who is 25 years older than her.
Butt, who is mother of two children, was suspended from her teaching job following her arrest.
It has since been revealed that the Millbrae police department has been notified of the sexual abuse by a concerned parent and by the girl’s high school about 11 months ago, but they refused to take action against the teacher.
The department announced that they are now conducting an internal investigation as to why the case was mishandled.
