Two people were killed on Aug. 17 when a training aircraft belonging to a private flying school crashed in the Ergene district of the northwestern province of Tekirdağ due to technical failure, Doğan News Agency has reported.
The four-seat Tecnam P2006T model aircraft belonging to the Tarkim flying school took off from the Çorlu Airport with trainer pilot Yusuf Akşahin and his trainee Alper Oran on board in the afternoon hours. The two-motor aircraft crashed into a harvested wheat field near the Ahimehmet village after takeoff.
Head pilot trainer Akşahin and his trainee Oran were killed in the accident.
The aircraft also broke into pieces and caught fire after the crash.
Çorlu Municipality firefighter units were dispatched to the scene immediately after the accident and extinguished the fire.
Earlier on Aug. 17, Ergene District Governor Fatih Kızıltoprak had announced that a trainer pilot and a trainee had been killed in the accident.
