New York bans sex offenders from playing Pokemon Go

Sex offenders in New York, will be further punished for their crimes as they will be banned from playing the Pokemon Go game.

Registered sex offenders who are on parole, will be banned from playing Pokemon Go for fear that they will use the popular virtual game to lure young victims.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he directed the New York Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to restrict the 3,000 sex offenders who are on parole, from using Pokemon Go and similar games.

Cuomo further asked Pokemon Go developer Niantic Inc. to cross-reference the list of sex offenders that was provided to them by the state with its list of players.

In order to keep young players safe, New York is also asking the company to stop allowing players to earn special points anywhere close to the homes where offenders live.

Sex offenders on probation will be instructed by their supervisors not to play Pokemon Go or similar games or they will be in violation of probation, state officials said.
