A man had second thoughts about kidnapping his daughter after realizing that he will have to change her dirty diapers, according to police in new York.
The New York Police Department said that they have arrested 39-year-old Leonel Moronta of Brooklyn, after being accused of raping his former girlfriend and kidnapping his 2-year-old daughter.
Moronta is facing charges of rape and kidnapping. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, after trying to kill himself inside a police holding cell by using pants to hang himself.
According to the police investigation, Moronta broke into the home of his former girlfriend on Monday around 7:30 a.m. He raped the mother of his 2-year-old daughter and fled from the apartment with the child.
A few hours later, Moronta called his former girlfriend and threatened to kill himself and his daughter. Police joined in on the phone line and began talking to the father about taking care of the girl.
When the police offered to change the girl’s dirty diaper, Moronta agreed to meet them and hand her over. Moronta showed up under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway near Bedford and Wythe Avenues, and gave himself up.
