A routine DUI arrest by West Virginia State Police led troopers to discover a 1-year-old baby covered in vomit and feces.
Trooper B.R. Wood and Senior Trooper D.C. Graham arrested the mother, then brought the baby boy back to their headquarters in Princeton.
The troopers bathed the baby, who they said had been sick for a while, in the sink while they waited for Child Protective Services.
“As a father myself, I couldn’t let it sit in its own urine and feces and vomit,” Senior Trooper D.C. Graham told WVNS-TV. “So I went ahead and drew a bath in the sink of the detachment and was able to clean him up a little bit and get him feeling a little bit better.”
The mother, who has not been identified, was charged with a DUI with a minor.
The baby was placed in the custody of a legal guardian and is being supervised by Child Protective Services.
