A businesswoman, Ms Rita Nnenna Anoh of Veroz Group, has adopted Miss Uzoamaka Chukwu, the girl who was stripped and flogged by some residents of her hometown in Ebonyi State.
The alleged assault was reportedly led by a government official.
The lawmaker representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo in the House of Representatives Linus Okorie said the woman had also given the girl full scholarship.
In a post on his facebook page, the lawmaker said the businesswoman had registered Uzoamaka for medical assessment and clinical therapy, after taking her on a shopping spree.
Okorie was among those who brought Uzoamaka’s plight to national attention.
The lawmaker said there were efforts to register her in a decent school ahead of the new academic calendar.
In a statement, Okorie said: “Scholarship Award activated. Uzoamaka has settled into the home of Ms Rita Nnenna Anoh, Group Managing Director (GMD) Veroz Group. She is her benefactor.
“Accordingly, her full scholarship to university level has been activated. In addition, Uzoamaka is now a bona fide member of the peaceful and blessed home of Ms Anoh, who recently emerged the Most Celebrated Female Personality of the Year during this year’s Nigeria Role Models Award in Lagos.
“One can only imagine the joy and overwhelming satisfaction of Uzoamaka as she moved into the palatial home of the Anohs.
“Tto ensure a complete switch from the pains of her past and prepare her for her new life, Uzoamaka was taken on an expansive shopping spree, registered for medical assessment and clinical therapy while efforts are on to register her in a decent school ahead of the commencement of the new academic session.
“It has indeed been an unending dream for her and her elder sister who was on hand to witness this magical transformation.
“I invite all men and women of goodwill to join me in extending profound thanks and gratitude to Uzoamaka’s new mum, Rita Nnenna Anoh, for her tremendous show of love to an otherwise destitute orphan.”
