Disfigured man reveals his face for first time since tiger attack

A man who was disfigured in a tiger attack and is forced to cover up his face has gone public with his scars for the first time.

Hashmot Ali, from southern Bangladesh, was sleeping in a boat docked in a forest canal when a tiger crept up behind him.

The animal dragged its claws across his face with a single stroke.

The tiger was finally scared of after the men started making loud noises with their boat paddles.

It took the fishermen six hours to row back to mainland where Hashmot was taken to hospital.

Upon arrival doctors said it was too late to give the 20-year-old proper treatment and simply covered his wounds with plasters.

Now 40, Hashmot has to cover up his face with a handkerchief due to continuous humiliation from people in the district of Satkhira where he lives.

He cannot attend public ceremonies and local children are scared of him.

The father-of-three worries that his disfigurement will stop his daughter from finding a husband.

He is hoping to get plastic surgery one day, but is aware it will be very expensive.
