President Muhammadu Buhari has requested that contractors in the Power sector submit their work plan for the completion of abandoned projects.
Deputy Director of Press, Ministry of Works Power and Housing, Mr. Timothy Oyedeji, made the disclosure on the telephone.
Asked to confirm whether the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Louis Edozien, was sitting on the repayment of outstanding debts that the Minister, Babatunde Raji Fashola, approved for some contractors of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Oyedeji said: “I am not aware of that but I am aware of the ministerial directive.”
He noted that the minister had given directive to the Permanent Secretary and Director of Finance and Accounts to effect pending payments. He said: “The minister has given directive to the Perm Sec and DFAs to make outstanding payments. But there are some issues in the Presidency over their (contractors) work plan. It has not been approved and maybe this is the thing that is delaying them. The Presidency said they should submit a work plan on how to go about abandoned projects.”
