A thief attempted to take advantage of a man’s weakness due to his advanced age, but was shocked to discover that the victim was armed.
Police in Michigan, were called to the Rite Aid on Gratiot near Nine Mile, which is located across from a police station, after a man was shot while trying to rob an elderly man.
The 91-year-old man told Detroit police that after coming out of his car, the suspect approached him in a threatening manner.
The elderly man told police that when he noticed that the suspect pointed something at him, he warned him that he was armed.
However, the man in his 30’s did not take the 91-year-old man seriously, and he kept coming closer in an apparent attempt to rob him.
That is when the elderly man pulled his concealed weapon and fired one shot. The suspect was hit in the neck.
The would-be-robber managed to flee from the scene, but was soon caught by police. The suspect was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries before being arrested.
Police said that the elderly man who had a license to carry the concealed weapon, acted in self-defense.
