A mother in Illinois, is very angry after her young daughter was arrested for taking candy that did not belong to her.

The mother of the first grader is now suing the Chicago Public Schools after their security officer arrested her daughter.

The 6-year-old girl was handcuffed, but instead of taking her to the police station, the officer placed the child under a set of stairs near the school’s boilers.

Marlena Wordlow said that her daughter her daughter, Madisyn Moore, was left alone for more than one hour.

Wordlow admitted that her daughter stole the candy from a teacher’s desk. However, she and her attorney, Jeffrey Granich, say that the officer used excessive force, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The school said that when they learned of the incident, they immediately fired the security officer and they placed a “do not hire” note in his personnel file.
