A woman nearly died from kidney failure after getting an infection from her dog, according to doctors in the United Kingdom.
The 70-year-old woman of London, first developed slurred speech and lost consciousness.
An ambulance rushed her to the hospital, where her condition improved,
but four days later, she suffered from confusion, headache, diarrhea and
high fever.
Finally, her kidneys began to fail. Blood tests revealed that she had
sepsis or blood infection, which led to the organ failure. Her blood
contained Capnocytophaga canimorsus, an infection caused by cats and
dogs.
However, the woman did not have any scratch marks, swelling or broken
skin. When the woman recovered, she said that she hugged her dog and her
pet licked her.
The woman was treated with antibiotics.
