The winner of a dancing competition was arrested on a charge of assault
after allegedly using a glass vase to assault a woman in a coffee shop,
according to police in California.
North Hollywood police said that they have arrested 27-year-old Joshua
Demon Allen, after being accused of beating his girlfriend despite an
outstanding order of protection.
Allen was charged with willfully injuring a girlfriend after a prior
conviction, assault with a deadly weapon, disobeying a domestic
relations criminal protective order, simple battery and vandalism under
$400.
He was booked into jail, and his bail was set at $100,000. If convicted, Allen faces up to 10 years in prison.
According to the police investigation, Allen was served with an order of
protection after being convicted of willfully injuring a girlfriend.
The criminal protective order prohibited Allen from communicating with
his girlfriend. Several months later, Allen is alleged to have assaulted
and strangled the same woman, prosecutors said.
Approximately two months later, Allen attacked the same victim, and she
ran to a nearby coffee shop to ask for help, prosecutors added.
Allen chased her into the coffee shop and threw a glass vase at a woman
who attempted to help the victim, and attacked another man who tried to
intervene.
Allen then vandalized the coffee shop until he was subdued by other good
Samaritans. Allen won season 4 of the TV show “So You Think You Can
Dance.”
