We’II fish out ghost workers – says AMAC chairman

The
Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu
Candido, has said the council will fish out ghost workers from the Local
Education Authority (LEA) and the council secretariat as soon as the
verification exercise is completed.

Speaking in an interview with our reporter yesterday, he said it was
quite disturbing that the monthly allocation that came to the council
always went into the payment of teachers’ salaries.

He added that he would also fish out the newly recruited teachers and
staff of the council, saying it was unfair for the past administration
to employ staff and teachers barely a month to the assumption of office
of the present administration, saying such appointments would be
cancelled.
Candido said the council had been able to settle the three months
backlog of staff salaries left behind by the past administration.

“In fact, we discovered that some people who were just recruited at both
LEA and the council secretariat had their letters of appointment
backdated, but of course such people have to go because we cannot accept
such criminality,” he said.

The chairman also said measures would be taken to put an end to the poor monthly allocation to the council.

He assured that the verification exercise was not meant to witch hunt
anybody but to enable him run an accountable and transparent government.
