A man was arrested on a charge of attempted murder after allegedly
stabbing four people at a library, according to police in Japan.
Fukushima police said that they have arrested 34-year-old Ryo Hirano,
after being accused of stabbing two public library employees and two
readers because he was told that he cannot borrow books.
Hirano was charged with four counts of attempted murder.
According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded around 4:00
p.m. on Monday. Hirano entered the public library and selected several
books.
When he tried to leave, a 51-year-old employee told him that he cannot
borrow books because he was not a resident of the city. Hirano became
angry and pulled out a knife from his pocket.
He then stabbed two employees and two visitors, aged 33 and 62. Another
visitor called police, who arrived at the scene and arrested the
suspect.
Hirano made no attempt to leave the building and waited there for
police. Luckily, the four victims suffered just slight injuries.
