Video: Handcuffed inmates break out of locked cell and save life of jail guard who suffered heart attack

A prison guard is lucky to be alive thanks to the inmates he was supposed to keep locked up.

About eight prisoners of Texas, were in a locked holding cell in the basement of the District Court Building in Weatherford.

Their was only one guard assigned to oversee the group when he suddenly fell to the ground.

Realizing that the man had a heart attack, Nick Kelton, who is in jail
for drug possession, and other inmates, knew that they had to act
quickly to save the jail guard’s life.

The inmates decided to risk their lives to leave the cell to save the
man. They busted the locked jail cell door while they were shackled and
went to help the man.

When they realized that the prison guard had no pulse, they began
screaming for help and banged on doors in an effort to get the attention
of someone in the building.

Deputies who were in a courtroom, heard the screaming and came running.

Kelton said that they were worried that officers will come in with their
weapons drawn and shoot them for breaking out of the holding cell.

The officers admitted that they thought a fight had broken out and the
prisoners had overtaken the guard, who had a gun and the keys.

However, video surveillance corroborated the inmates’ story that they were just trying to save the jail guards’ life.

The cell door that was busted down was fixed and reinforced so that inmates can never again bust out of it.
