Two 8-year-old girls arrested for tearing down pink election posters because they wanted to use the paper

Two young girls were arrested on a charge of violating campaigning rules
after allegedly tearing down election posters because they wanted to
use the paper, according to police in Thailand.

Kamphaeng Phet police said that the two 8-year-old girls, who were not
identified, wanted to use the paper for themselves because they like the
color pink.

The girls were charged with violating campaigning rules and destroying
public property. They will not face any punishment due to their young
age.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Sunday.
The girls left school and were walking home when the encountered the
campaign posters.

The girls told the police that they decided to tear down the posters and
use the paper for themselves as the like the color pink. However, they
were caught in the act, and were arrested.

The country has strict campaign laws, banning residents from discussing
the upcoming vote. Those convicted of violating the laws face up to 10
years in prison.
