Turkish President urges US to extradite Gülen after coup attempt

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has urged the U.S. to extradite U.S.-based scholar Fethullah Gülen after the attempted coup in the country on July 15.

“I
am calling on the U.S. and Mr. President. Hand over that person [Gülen]
in Pennsylvania after this coup attempt,”Erdoğan said while addressing
to the crowd in front of his residence in Istanbul.

“If we are strategic and model partners, please meet that demand of your partner.” he added.

The president also added that many things will change when the U.S. extradites Gülen to Turkey.

He noted that the coup attempt came from “a small minority within the military.”

“They were like a tumor within the military, and now this tumor is being removed,” Erdoğan said.
