Teacher walks out of court a free woman after being convicted of having a sexual relationship with 14-year-old student

People are angry after a teacher walked out of court a free woman
despite pleading guilty to six felony counts of sexual battery.

28-year-old Serena Milan of Knox County, Tennessee, has been sentenced
to 10 years of probation and will have to register as a sex offender for
20 years as part of a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors.
An addition to pleading guilty to sexual battery, Milan also pleaded guilty to 22 felony counts of exploitation of a minor.

According to the police investigation, Milan was working as an English
teacher at the Northwest Middle School, when she began her sexual
advances on the child, including graphic text messages and photographs.

The teacher and the 14-year-old boy had sex at least 6 times, including
in Milan’s classroom. On at least one occasion, the teacher and the boy
had sex in her car.

The mother of the boy filed a lawsuit against the teacher and the
school, seeking $2 million in damages. Milan was originally charged with
six counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and sexual
exploitation of a minor.
