Police in Georgia, arrested a convenience store clerk for taking a young boy hostage at gunpoint.
11-year-old Dylan Curate of Atlanta, entered the Big Brother Grocery at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, and he walked around the store.
As he left, store worker Abhishek Dubey stopped Curate from leaving by
locking the door with a remote and pointing a .22-caliber revolver at
him.
The boy’s family member, who was outside, tried to get to him, but they were locked out of the store so they called police.
Dubey told police that he stopped Curate because he believed the boy was there to shoplift.
Police reviewed store surveillance video, which showed that the boy did
not take anything and he did not act suspicious in any way.
Dubey was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Another worker
defended Dubey, saying that they recently had issues with kids stealing
items.
Store employees also said that the child should not have been out at
1:30 a.m. However, his mother Deangela Terriquez, said that he was at
the store with an adult relative.
Terriquez, along with other concerned residents, held a protest in front of the store to ask people not to shop there.
Police confirmed that the .22-caliber revolver was not loaded and it was not in working order.
