Dutch forward Robin van Persie will stay in Fenerbahçe, the club has announced amid reports that he signed with the Premier League’s Stoke City.
“The news about Robin van Persie leaving our club doesn’t reflect the truth. Necessary meetings were held with the Dutch player’s agent and no transfers will take place,” a statement released fromFenerbahçeon July 21 read.
Van Persie’s agent met with Chinese clubs for 20 days but couldn’t find a club for the Dutch star, daily Hürriyet reported. The agent also met with Stoke City and Everton, but couldn’t reach a deal, according to reports.
Previous reports stated that the former Manchester United and Arsenal player was looking for a club to play with after a season in Fenerbahçe. Stoke City then stepped in andFenerbahçedecided to rent van Persie to the club, the reports also said.
The Dutch star scored 22 goals in the 48 games that he played in appearances with Fenerbahçe.
