Riot breaks out in jail as inmates did not like their mashed potatoes

A large riot broke out in a jail after the inmates were given mashed potatoes for lunch, according to police in Kansas.

The incident unfolded at the Butler County Jail in El Dorado on Sunday.

About 50 inmates refused to return to their cells after lunch because
they were given mashed potatoes. The inmates flipped over a lot of
tables, used fire extinguishers, broke several security cameras.

The inmates were retaliating because they were served bad food. The
inmates eventually returned to their cells after being threatened with
tear gas.

No one was injured during the unrest. The riot lasted from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
