Police launched an investigation after a police officer was rushed to a
hospital following injuries to his mouth from biting into glass in his
sandwich, according to police in Ohio.
The Columbus Police Department said that the incident unfolded on Monday at the Lincoln Cafe.
Officer Quoc Nguyen took multiple bites of his sandwich before suffering
cuts in his mouth. He found pieces of glass on the sandwich, and he was
bleeding from the mouth.
Nguyen was taken to the OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where he was being treated. He was later released and is recovering.
At this point, there is no reason to believe that the glass was intentionally placed in the sandwich, police said.
Public Health officials shut down the restaurant while conducting their
investigation. Investigators spoke with the person who served the
sandwich on Tuesday.
They found nothing wrong with the food. They did find several broken glass plates and four small pieces of clear glass.
