A pharmacist was arrested on a charge of using a poison to injure or
cause distress or pain after she rejected his sexual advances, according
to police in Australia.
Now, 34-year-old Yan Chi Anthony Cheung of Sydney, has been sentenced to
at least 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to using a poison to
injure or cause distress or pain in connection with the poisoning of
his colleague, Pamela Leung.
According to the police investigation, the two worked together in a pharmacy on the University of NSW’s Kensington campus.
Cheung and Leung became friends when they met at the Surry Hills Chinese
Presbyterian Church. Leung told police that Cheung became obsessed with
her.
Leung asked Cheung to stop making sexual advances toward her after he
deliberately brushed up against her chest and behind at work.
In response, Cheung started putting prescription medications in her
water and coffee in order to make her suffer. Over a period of a year,
he drugged her 23 times, using anti-allergy and anti-depressant
medication.
At one point, he put 150 milligrams of Deptran into the victim’s instant
coffee can, causing Leung to consume drugs every time she drank.
Some of the drugs cause infertility with prolonged use. The court was
told that as a pharmacist, Cheung had the knowledge about the health
effects of the drugs.
