Pastor caught breaking into rival’s church to steal money

People in Illinois, were shocked to hear of the arrest of a pastor who was busted inside his rival’s church.

Police arrested 39-year-old David Utt, who is the pastor of New Hope
Community Church in downtown Canton, after he was found inside the
Church of the Nazarene.

Police said that officers spotted a truck in the church parking lot at about 1 a.m. on Monday.

The vehicle was partially hidden in the grass. The windows were down and
the key was still in the ignition, but there was no one around, police
said.

Officers searched the area, and heard a noise coming from inside the church building.

When they entered, they found Utt using tools to pry open a safe in the office.

Utt apparently wanted the money for a good cause. The pastor is behind
on his rent and he had previously set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise
money for the down payment to build a new church.

However, he only raised $140 of his $20,000 goal and all donations came
from the same person, who gave $20 a month over a seven month period.

The pastor was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property over $300 and possession of burglary tools.

Utt was booked into the Fulton County Jail, and his bail was set at $60,000.
