Mother who tried to kill her baby by leaving him near seawall claims it is legal because she could have had an abortion

A young mother was arrested on a charge of child neglect after allegedly
abandoning her baby dangerously close to the water so he should drown,
according to police in Florida.

St. Augustine police said that they have arrested 26-year-old Jennifer
Belk, after being accused of trying to kill her baby and claiming that
she could have legally killed him while he was inside her.

Belk has been charged with one count of child neglect. Belk was booked
into jail, and her bail was set at $5,000. Police said that they got
calls on Monday, reporting that Belk abandoned her son on the Bridge of
Lions.

Police officers who responded to the scene, found Belk walking along the
Bridge of Lions, where she admitted to leaving her son dangerously
close to the seawall.

When asked why, Belk told officers that since it was legal for her to
kill her unborn child when he was inside her why not when he is outside.

The child was found by police, and was not injured. The Department of
Children and Families was notified, and they took custody of the child.
