hardware. President Buhari spoke at the Presidential Villa in Abuja
yesterday while receiving the Northern Christian Leaders Eagles Eyes
Forum.
A former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki and many others
are accused of stealing and sharing over $15billion meant for the
purchase of arms to prosecute the war against the Boko Haram insurgency
in the North-east during the administration of former President Goodluck
Jonathan.
But yesterday, the president said it was gratifying that those who stole and shared the funds were already regretting.
Buhari emphasised that the culprits would regret more and specifically
warned that those caught in corruption would have themselves to blame.
He said it was saddening that some of those who stole our national
resources put the money in their personal accounts.
The president pledged that in its resolute commitment to restoring the
economic fortunes of the country and deliver prosperity to Nigerians,
his administration would not hide anything from the citizenry.
Buhari appealed to religious leaders not to lose hope in the unity,
stability and progress of the nation, assuring that the federal
government would continue to prioritise the safety of lives and
property.
This, he said, is in addition to equipping farmers with the right tools, technology and techniques to boost agriculture.
“You must tell your followers the truth about the country. We have
nothing to hide because we have no other country but Nigeria. Tell them
to give us a chance to stabilise the country,” the president urged.
He thanked the Christian leaders for their support to the anti-corruption war of his administration.
Earlier, leader of the forum, Pastor Aminchi Habu, had said he saw a new Nigeria during President Buhari’s administration.
