Police are looking to arrest a man on a charge of animal cruelty after allegedly stabbing two dogs because they sniffed his dog, according to police in California.
Oakland police said that the attack unfolded in an empty lot that doubles up as a dog park on Sunday.
Robert Selhorst said that he took his dogs Otis, Caraleena, and Ruth, to the dog park when Ruth saw a man and his puppy.
Ruth ran over to the puppy and sniffed the dog and its owner.
The man, who was described as dark and tall, flipped out. He pulled out a
knife and began slashing Ruth. Caroleena then ran over to the man, and
it got slashed as well.
The man then picked up his puppy and fled from the scene.
Selhorst had to take his dogs to a vet for treatment. The medical bills
cost him $3,000. Selhorst set up a GoFundMe page in order to raise the
money, and he quickly raised $5,000.
