Britain’s oldest person Gladys Hooper dies at the age of 113

Britain’s oldest person Gladys Hooper – who was born the
same year the aeroplane was invented – has died at the age of 113. Mrs
Hooper broke a Guinness World Record last year when she became the
oldest person to undergo a hip replacement operation.

She and her late husband, Leslie married in 1922 but she was widowed in
1988 when Leslie, who was a pilot in the Flying Corps in the two world
wars, died.  Her son, Derek Hermiston, 85 confirmed she passed away at
the nursing home where she lived in Ryde on the Isle of Wight.
