Be patient with Buhari, says outgoing US envoy to Nigerians

The
outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle, has urged
Nigerians to exercise patience with President Muhammadu Buhari’s
administration in economic recovery, stressing that situation will
improve very soon.

Entwistle compared what is happening to
Buhari and what happened to U.S. President Barrack Obama when he came to
power.

“And I think in my country a lot of people forgot a very difficult
situation President Obama inherited. I think the same thing is happening
to President Buhari to a certain degree. It is completely understanding
that the people have a high expectation, they are impatient they want to
see change,” the envoy stated.

“But Mr. President inherited a very difficult set of circumstances and
some of the things that he has identified that need to be done to end
corruption that we found in the petroleum sector and the crisis in the
North-East. These are things that even if we work as fast as we can it
will take a very long time,” he said.

“I think we have to remember what he inherited. And in my own opinion we
have to be neutral and balance, I think Mr. President and his team have
done a good job within this period,” Entwistle said.

He noted that the slide in the economy was as a result of some of the
things inherited by the president such as poor infrastructure in the
petroleum sector and others.
