An elderly man who was arrested on a charge of rape for allegedly raping
a 3-year-old girl, was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation
for stripping naked in court, prosecutors in Zimbabwe said.
76-year-old Ndawana Phinias of Lupanda, allegedly lured the little girl
to his apartment, where he undressed and raped her despite the fact that
he is blind.
According to the police investigation, on Monday around 9:00 a.m., the
girl was playing behind the man’s home when he approached her.
Ndlovu then lifted her up and took her into his home. Ndlovu then placed the girl on a bed and undressed her before raping her.
The incident came to light after a relative of the girl walked into the
bedroom and caught Ndlovu in the act. The relative immediately called
the police who arrested Ndlovu.
When Ndlovu was brought to court to be arraigned on one count of rape, he stripped naked.
The judge told court officers to remove the defendant from the courtroom
and ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation before proceeding
to trial.
