Three monkeys died after two dogs managed to break into a zoo and attack them, according to police in Louisiana.
The incident unfolded at the Baton Rouge Zoo, early on Tuesday morning.
Kaki Heiligenthal, who is a spokesperson for the Baton Rouge Zoo, said
that surveillance video shows a couple of domestic dogs inside the zoo
early in the morning.
The dogs could not enter the exhibition, but they got close enough to
get the attention of the monkeys. When the monkeys approached, the dogs
were able to grab them.
When workers arrived on Tuesday, they found a 22-year-old male and a
29-year-old female dead in their enclosure. An 18-year-old male monkey
had to be euthanized because of its severe injuries.
So far, the two dogs have not been caught.
