“Woman who abstains from maternity is incomplete”

Turkish
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan argued that a woman who refuses maternity
for her profession is “lacking” and “denying her feminity”.

“A woman who abstains from maternity by saying ‘I am working’ means that
she is actually denying her femininity. This is my sincere thought. A
woman who refuses maternity and gives up housekeeping faces the threats
of losing her freedom. She is lacking and is a half [a person] no matter
how successful she is in the business world” Erdoğan said on Sunday, at
the opening ceremony of the Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) in
Istanbul.

“I certainly do not accept the business world becoming an alternative for maternity” he added.

According
to Erdoğan, humanity “cannot exist without motherhood”. Erdoğan
reiterated his previous call for three children saying that the
statement “did not belong to him but was an order of God and the
Prophet”.

“Producing and existing in all fiels of life is definetly not an obstacle for motherhood” he told.

Erdoğan’s
comments followed is remarks last week condemning birth control for Muslim families, during an International Women’s Day. Women are mothers
“above all else” Erdoğan has stated.
