Six people drown while trying to rescue teen who fell into a river while taking a selfie

 

A teen who was trying to take a selfie, and his six friends died after
getting caught in the rough waters of a river in India, police said.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday, at the Ganga Barrage bridge located at the Ganges River.

According to the police investigation, 19-year-old Shivam Gupta was taking a selfie when he slipped and fell into the water.

Five of his friends from college and 31-year-old Mohammad Maqsood, jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue the teen.

However, they all drowned as a result of the strong current.

All the victims were at the Ganges River for a picnic. At the time of
the accident, the river was at particularly high levels due to heavy
rains.
