Man fatally slits his throat in court while being sentenced to 4 years in prison for drug possession

A man of the United States, who was arrested on a charge of drug
possession in Taiwan, killed himself in court while being sentenced to
four years in prison.
41-year-old Tyrel Martin Marhanka smuggled a pair of scissors into the
courtroom, and plunged it into his neck when the judge sentenced him to
prison.
According to the police, officers raided Marhanka’s house, where they
found a large stash of illegal drugs, including hundreds of marijuana
plants.

He told police that he grows the plants as a hobby and he intended to
use all the drugs for himself. Marhanka was married and had two
children.

After the judge read the sentence aloud, an interpreter informed
Marhanka of the sentence. Marhanka was shocked to hear about the long
prison sentence.

Marhanka was told that the sentence could be appealed, but he said he did not want to.

Marhanka shouted that he does not want to live anymore before stabbing himself in the neck and severing at least one artery.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
