Husband charged with murder for causing his wife to commit suicide by harassing her

An abusive husband was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly
harassing his wife until she committed suicide, according to police in
Minnesota.
Stewartville police said that they have arrested 34-year-old Long Vang,
after his wife, 28-year-old Jessica Damian Haban, killed herself
following an 11 year relationship.

The couple got married 6 years ago. Vang has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

According to the police investigation, during the marriage, Vang
subjected his wife to increasing levels of domestic violence. The abuse
was verbal, emotional, mental and physical.

Last year, Vang’s abuse resulted in a traumatic brain injury to his
partner. Ultimately, his partner took her own life to escape the
relationship.

Haban called police to report that Vang was throwing things at her. She
claimed that had overturned a coffee table and used it to keep her on
the couch.

He then broke the phone while she was trying to call the police, who
showed up and said they found Vang hiding behind a vehicle near the
garage.

Less than two weeks later, Vang hit Haban on the head with a closed fist.

A restraining order was issued, but three months later, a friend
expressed concern that Vang could seriously injure or kill Haban.

Haban shared her fears with a social worker. Three days after being
discharged from the hospital following mental health treatment, Haban
killed herself.

The couple had two children together.
