15-year-old boy shoots himself in the head while father teaches him how to handle a gun

A father wanted to keep his son safe by teaching him how to use a gun, but that backfired and the boy died. 15-year-old Nicholas Ursiny accidentally shot himself in the head during a shooting session with his father.

The father and son were practicing shooting in the courtyard of their home in Pennsylvania, when he shot himself.

Emergency crews and police were called to the Allegheny Township home
after 5:00 p.m., and Ursiny was taken to a hospital, but he died the
next day.

The father, Patrick Ursiny, told police that they were target shooting
in his yard and a bullet went off and the tragic accident happened.

The 15-year-old boy was trying to reload the small caliber pistol by
himself without his father’s supervision when he accidentally pulled the
trigger and it discharged, hitting him in the head, according to Police
Chief John Fontaine.

Charges are not expected to be filed against the father in what Fontaine called a tragic accident.
