A teenage girl was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after
drinking a poisonous substance because she was angry with her mother,
according to police in Ghana. Ashanti police said that the mother found her 14-year-old daughter
unconscious in her bed after she tried to kill herself because she was
told to stay away from her 34-year-old boyfriend.
Adjoa Ampomaa is being treated at the Nweneso Number One hospital, where she is said to be in critical condition.
The mother told investigators that about a week ago, she realized that her daughter was spending time with a new boyfriend.
When the mother found out that the man was 34 years old, she banned her
daughter from seeing him again, fearing that she might get pregnant with
his child.
On Monday morning, the mother went to her daughter’s bedroom to wake her
up, but she found her unconscious in bed with a bottle of poison next
to her.
